      Samarium

The pure state metal Samarium has a silver-white luster, is not easy to oxidize in the air, and will spontaneously combust at 150°C. Samarium is one of the most difficult elements to demagnetize, so its compounds are mostly used to make permanent magnets–Samarium cobalt magnets, is a kind of rare-earth materials made of Samarium, cobalt and other metals, which are fused together to produce a strong magnet with stable temperature resistance, but fragile and expensive. Samarium oxide is also a good infrared absorber, so it is added to special glass and infrared-sensitive phosphors.
