Erbium
The pure metal Erbium is soft, ductile, has a metallic luster and is more resistant to corrosion than other metals. Some forms of Erbium have very special optical fluorescent properties and can be used in the production of lasers. When added to the glass of fiber optic cables, Erbium amplifies the broadband signal being transmitted.Erbium can be formed into special alloys with metals such as Vanadium, which improves the workability and ductility of these metals. The oxide of Erbium is added to glass and enamel to give it its pink color, which is often used in sunglasses and inexpensive jewelry.
