Globally, most rare earth elements are used as catalysts and magnets. In the United States, more than half of the rare earth elements are used as catalysts, and they are also used in large quantities in ceramics, glass, and polishing. Other important uses of rare earth elements are in the production of high-performance magnets, alloys, glass, and electronics.
