Nano Diamond Powder Composites

Fluorine rubber and nitrile butadiene rubber were modified by using purified and post-blasted synthetic products (nano-diamond black powder and gray powder). The study shows that although the black powder can increase the hardness of rubber, but the tensile strength and elongation at tear decreased. Nano diamond powder gray powder added to the fluorine rubber, the rubber’s comprehensive performance indicators rise. This is because the nano diamond dust ash powder contains light group, carboxyl group, methyl and other functional groups, enhance the activity of bonding with the polymer, thereby improving the rubber tensile properties, hardness, abrasion resistance and other performance indicators.

The research of Russian scholars shows that after adding nano diamond powder to fluorine film, the resistance to abrasion is increased by 1 times. After adding nano diamond powder to polyisoprene rubber used in tires, abrasion resistance, elongation, and slowing down the aging process increased by 1.3 to 1.7 times, and the high-temperature tear resistance improved significantly, and the burst strength of tires (from 53 MPa to 154 MPa) increased. Filled with black powder silicone rubber, so that the fracture strength in absolute length increased by about three times from 53 MPa to 154 MPa, the integrated elastic strength increased by 3 to 5 times, its critical and maximum modulus of elasticity corresponds to the black powder content of about 0.6% (wt.); in the fluorine rubber component filled with black powder, so that abrasion and wear resistance increased by 1.5 times 2 times, similar to that of polyisoprene rubber.

At present, most of the research focuses on the use of nano diamond powder or black powder as filler to fill rubber or plastic products with strong functionality, and they are all low-filling, and their additive amount is generally less than 1%. In the rubber processing process, replacing 1~3% (wt%) of traditional carbon fillers with nano diamond powder and black powder by the same weight can extend the service life (mileage) of non-polar isoprene rubber automobile tires by 30%, while the service life of rubber workpieces such as axle bushings can be increased by 30~100%. At the same time, the addition of nano diamond powder reduces the porosity, the power required for mixing is reduced by 5-7%, and air bubbles, debris and adhesion on the surface can be reduced, making it easier to demold.
