Terbium

The pure metal Terbium is silver-white, ductile, soft enough to be cut with a knife, and non-corrosive. Terbium compounds are used in special lasers and as a green phosphor in color television tubes and computer monitors. Other applications include the production of special magnetic alloys suitable for recordings and the manufacture of high-resolution X-ray screens. Terbium alloys with Dysprosium and Iron are a new type of rare-earth super-magnetostrictive material widely used in flat panel loudspeakers, water-acoustic transducer technology for acoustic signals, electroacoustic transducer technology, and noise-reducing and noise-preventing system technology.
